All the admissions to GMC Srinagar are based entirely on the merit obtained by the aspirants in the Competitive entrance examination , conducted annually by the CAEE (Competent Authority Entrance Examination) of the state of Jammu and Kashmir in the last week of July.

The eligibility of candidates is determined as follows:
Candidates must be permanent residents of J&K state as defined in section 6 of the Constitution of J&K state.
Candidates appearing under Open Merit category must have passed Higher secondary part II ( Class XII ) 10 +2 or equivalent from a recognized board or university with English, Physics , Chemistry and Biology as their elective subjects securing not less than 50% marks in aggregate.
The candidates must have attained the age of 17 years on or before 31.12.2001.(Date valid only for 2001 entrance examination).
Candidates applying under reserved categories given in SRO-126 of 1994, dated 28.06.1994 as amended from time to time , must have secured at least 40% marks in aggregate.
Candidates applying under reserved categories given in SRO-126 of 1994, dated 28.06.1994 as amended from time to time , must submit copies of requisite category certificates together with the application form. The Category certificates should be issued by the issuing authorities as according to SRO.
Candidates applying for MBBS/BDS Courses under NR, NRDP, PMF, SIG categories must have secured 50% marks in the qualifying examination as in the case of candidates under the open merit category. The details of seats for all these categories are as follows.
A) Children of non-permanent resident (All India Service Officers) J&K Cadre who are allotted to the state.
B) Children of Non Permanent Resident employee of the State or Central Govt Offices or institution run by the State and who have the continuous Service of not less than 15 years in the J&K State: "NR" One Seat in GMC Srinagar.
C) Children of Non Permanent resident Personal (Army, Navy and Air Force): "NRDP" One seat in GMC Srinagar.
D) Children of Non Permanent resident Defence Personal serving in "SIG" (Siachen Glacier area) :"SIG" One seat in Govt. Medical College Srinagar.
Note: The parents of the candidates falling under these categories
must be serving in J&K State. The candidates applying under these categories
shall be considered for selection, subject to their eligibility in the
same manner as for the Open merit category candidates of the J&K State.
However, in the case of NR, NRDP, and SIG categories, the selection
of the eligible candidates shall be arranged by the CAEE on the basis of
merit obtained by the candidates within their respective categories in
term of Govt. order No. 1819GAD of 1997 dated 20.11.1997. In case any of
these seats remain unfilled for any reason the same shall not be transferred
to any other category.

Eligibility Criteria The candidate must have passed Senior Secondary
School Certificate Examination/Pre Medical examination of this university
or an examination recognized by the University as its equivalent in the
subject of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English individually and must
have obtained a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate taken together in Physics,
Chemistry and Biology at the qualifying examination. Further the Candidate
must have come in the merit list prepared as a result of competitive entrance
examination by securing not less than 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and
Biology taken together in the competitive examination
The course structure and content is set according to the guidelines laid down by the Medical Council of India. It consists of 9 semesters each of 6 months duration. The first 2 semesters are devoted to the pre-clinical subjects - Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry and after this period of 12 months the 1st Professional examination is held. The maximum marks are 200 for each subject. In the next 3 semesters, the student studies and is examined in Pathology (150 marks), Microbiology (150 marks), Pharmacology (150 marks) and Forensic Medicine (100 marks). During this period he is also introduced to the clinical subjects through lectures and clinical postings by rotation. During the last 4 semesters, the students studies only the clinical subjects - Internal Medicine including Cardiology and Neurology, Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology, Psychiatry, Dermatology and Community Medicine through lectures, demonstrations and clinical postings. The course then culminates in the 3rd or Final Professional Examination. Written, clinical and oral examinations are held. The maximum marks for these subjects are Medicine - 300, Surgery including Orthopedics - 300, Ophthalmology - 100, Otorhinolaryngology - 100, Pediatrics - 100, Community Medicine - 200 and Obstetrics and Gynecology - 200.
The 4 1/2 years course is followed by a 1 year compulsory rotating Internship. During this period the student rotates through the main departments and also has rural and elective postings. This period of training may be completed at any hospital recognized for the purpose by the Medical Council of India. On successful completion of Internship, the candidate is eligible for the award of MBBS degree.
The MBBS course is of four and a half year's and is followed by one year of Compulsory Rotating Residential Internship. The course is taken in three stages, following a short foundation course which provides basic principles of Communication, Ethics and Problem Based Learning. The first stage is for 12 months and covers the basic sciences of Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry. The next stage is for 18 months and includes Pharmacology, Pathology, Microbiology and Forensic Medicine.
The last stage is for 24 months and covers Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology, Community Medicine, General Medicine, Paediatrics, Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery and Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
Application form and Prospectus can be obtained for a fee from the Registrar, Christian Medical College, Vellore, 632 002, Tamilnadu, India. At the present, the Registrar does not have email access, so please correspond by postal mail.
The application fee for overseas residents and foreign nationals is US $ 50, sent as a crossed demand draft, payable to the CMC Vellore Association Account. Application forms will be mailed from 15 February 2002 onwards until 8 April 2002. Thereafter, applications can be collected in person, from the Registrar until 18 April 2002, which is also the last day for submitting completed applications.
ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION TO THE MBBS COURSE
Christian Medical College is affiliated to the Dr. MGR Medical University. The minimum qualification for admission to the MBBS course as prescribed by the University is the “Higher Secondary Examination or the Indian School Certificate Examination, which is equivalent to ‘ten plus two’ Higher Secondary Examination, taken after a period of 12 years of studies; the last two years of study comprising of physics, chemistry and Biology, with English at a level not less than the core course for English as prescribed by the National Council for Educational Research & Training, after the introduction of the 10 + 2 + 3 years educational structure as recommended by the National Committee on Education”.
“Candidates should have passed in English and obtained 50% marks aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Biology, taken together, both at qualifying and competitive examinations”.
All candidates from India or abroad with qualifications other than the 'Plus Two Examination of Higher Secondary Board' of Tamilnadu State should obtain an Eligibility Certificate from the Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai 600 032, Tamilnadu, in order to be eligible to attend the interviews. Only candidates who qualify the written test will be called for the interviews.
Non-Indian nationals will have to obtain a 'No Objection Certificate' from the Government of India by applying through the Principal/Dean of the College to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, Nirman Bhavan, New Delhi - 110 001.
